From cfarrellysmith at hotmail.com Wed Oct 27 17:45:53 2010 From: cfarrellysmith at hotmail.com (Catherine Farrelly-Smith) Date: Wed, 27 Oct 2010 17:15:53 +1030 Subject: [AWPC News] U16 girls... Message-ID: To all Albury members I'm still getting emails which should be forwarding to Josh Land as treasurer i think. I don't seem to be getting any emails from news at awpc.com.au I've just read the email about the Under 16 girls from Marg Moran. As a parent of a current Albury player, a past committee member and coach, I feel i'm qualified to have my say... 1. This contention in the under 16 girls sides about how they should be split seems to be a secretive thing. Why has nothing come out via news at awpc.com.au to all parents. My son is in the under 14s. There is every likelihood this will be an issue next year or year after in the Under 16 boys. I would like to know about the discussion process and the outcome. 2. Albury has always differentiated itself from other clubs by being more about the game and the enjoyment of it over premierships, particularly for juniors. Albury water polo club has NEVER been win at all costs. 3. The older under 16s girls who believe they are ENTITLED to a premiership after losing for so many years may well feel that way. But they are NOT entitled to win at the cost of the other girls in the club who would be dominated, defeated and outclassed in EVERY SINGLE game they play. A premiership that comes at a cost to those newer/weaker players in the under 16 girls isn't worth it. 4. No Albury side should flog another one, particularly in juniors. There are ALWAYS ill-feelings when this happens. Even in Adults. I draw to your attention, B grade women and C grade men. Incidents over the years have arisen WHEN THE TEAMS WERE UNEVEN, rarely when they weren't. And these ADULTS had trouble with the idea of being FLOGGED by their own club mates, not a great game between two equals, but one 'stacked' side beating another. I'm interested in how this discussion goes. AS i said, Albury will be facing this situation in the under 16 boys if not next year, then the year after. And I'm very interested in whether this 'win at all costs' attitude is going to be a new direction for Albury Water polo. I'd be incredibly disappointed if it is.
